Floating Solar PV – Global Momentum and Prospects

Although floating pv has been around in Japan and Korea for 10 years already, it has just started to gather attention in Europe within the last 2 years. So high time to dive into the technical advantages of Floating PV, the market potential and the challenges that come with it.

To tackle the topic from all sides and to give indepth engineering as well as an economic insights, we have two guests today. We’ll start with Minne de Jong, a researcher and project manager at Techno Research Institute of the Netherlands, followed by some economical and development insights by Toni Weigl Project Manager Large Scale PV and Product Manager Floating PV at BayWa r.e.

About Minne de Jong and TNO

After a PhD at Utrecht University on solar energy, Minne de Jong has been focusing entirely on solar energy applications since 2014. At TNO he works on PV applications, such as floating PV systems and solar noise barriers. On these topics TNO forms consortia, performs field research and works on healthy business cases. TNO has just finalized a comparative field test on floating PV and has recently started a new research in this field.

About Toni Weigl and Baywa r.e.

In August 2018 Toni joined BayWa r.e., a leading global renewable energy developer, service supplier, distributor and energy solutions provider. As a Project Manager, Toni is working on the implementation of Floating PV plants in Holland and now he also transporting that knowledge to the other markets as our Floating PV Product Manager.
