Event Kicks Off with Focus on Energy Communities and Upcoming Market Design Reforms

Savannah Altwater, head of distribution and market facilitation at Eurelectric, addressed the audience in a session focused on energy communities and their impact on local areas through energy sharing. She welcomed attendees to a presentation and panel discussion. She explained that energy communities involve groups of citizens or businesses jointly investing in generation assets and sharing the produced energy among themselves or supplying it externally based on regulations. A recent update mentioned that new market design will be enforced starting next month with an implementation timeline extending until July 2026 for full adoption across member states. The session was structured into three key presentations: 1. Walter Kreisel, CEO and founder of Sustainable Mobility at neoom. 2. Daniel Maré Dias alongside José Queirós de Almeida from Greenvolt Communities. 3. Margarida Correia Pires from EDP Comercial. These speakers were expected to provide insights into sustainable practices within their respective fields as part of the overarching theme of fostering robust energy communities across Europe.
