Global Solar Market Outlook Launch Conference

June 16-18, 2020

In 2020, the Intersolar Europe as part of The smarter E and SolarPower Europe have organized the Global Solar Market Outlook Launch Conference, a virtual event that provided an update on the latest solar developments and 5-year markets forecasts.

While solar is increasingly the lowest cost and fastest growing power generation technology in the world, the sector has been impacted heavily by COVID-19. After a presentation of the GMO 2020-2024 findings, high-profile panels discussed the market developments and the COVID-19 impacts. We also had invited executives of the leading solar markets’ industry associations to give first-hand insights and discuss with the audience their views on solar demand in their countries.

Solar installations are on the rise. The deployment is expected to continue over the next four years, reaching 617 GW in 2027. The energy transition towards renewables is well under way in the Middle East and North Africa. The region has advanced and ambitious energy investment and diversification plans in place, driven by the need to meet growing energy demand, promote economic growth, maximize socioeconomic benefits and meet decarbonisation objectives. Analysis for IRENA's World Energy Transitions Outlook (WETO) reveals that the region could obtain almost 26% of its total primary energy supply from renewables by 2050, while the renewable share could reach 53% in the power sector.
