Hybrid Power Plants: Unlocking the Future of Renewable Energy

The smarter E Podcast Episode 182 | July, 11 2024 | Language: English

Hybrid power plants are more and more becoming an integral part of the energy transition: The combination of PV and storage allows to harmonize generation with consumption, further the combination with wind allows to reduce costs by sharing infrastructure and taking advantage of the complementary generation profiles of sun and wind. The crucial point is a lack of appropriate policies to fully use the potential of hybrid power plants.

We wanted to know a bit more about the market development, obstacles and benefits of hybrid power plants, and therefore talked with Felipe Narbona.

Timeline:

  • 02:32 In Germany, there was just a kick-off of the new legislation for solar energy, which also included a couple of changes for storage systems. Does this have an effect on large-scale hybrid power plants?
  • 08:22 A look at the Global market: What business models for hybrid power plants exist? Which are the most successful ones?
  • 10:11 What legislative challenges still hinder the deployment of hybrid power systems?
  • 13:50 Are there also technical obstacles for hybrid power systems?
  • 17:13 What market development do you expect for the coming years?
