Huawei's Mauricio Olmos Discusses Green Energy Solutions and Market Strategy at European Grid and Digital Power Smart Event

Mauricio Olmos from Huawei's European Grid and Digital Power Smart division discusses how Huawei has progressively advanced in the green energy market since 2017. Initially, they introduced inverters, followed by optimizers a year later. Their significant milestone came with the Luna S1000 Zero battery for residential use, which became one of their best-sellers globally. They further expanded into electric vehicle (EV) solutions and backup systems. Emphasizing collaboration with partners as crucial to market success, Mauricio underlines that partnerships ensure product leadership, system development, and long-term presence. Huawei ensures rigorous safety measures across all products through strict quality checks to maintain trust with partners and customers—underscored by over 3.3 million families using their systems without notable failures. Mauricio identifies two main challenges: continuously innovating to stay relevant and upgrading existing non-battery systems for better customer engagement. Safety remains a priority; thus they developed separate MPE (roof-related) and CLP (house-related) protections ensuring both roof installations and indoor batteries are securely monitored against hazards like overheating or fire risks. Lastly, he introduces their diverse portfolio catering to different needs—from single-phase to three-phase solutions capable of being scaled significantly—to offer flexibility for end-users as well as installers.

Our European energy system is undergoing a major transformation, moving towards decentralization with increased penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) connected to the grid, such as PV solar, battery storage, and EVs. While DERs provide clear benefits such as limiting costs, reducing CO2 emissions, and helping to empower consumers, there are still challenges to overcome to develop DERs to their full potential. This session will focus on best practices and innovative projects, both from a grid and user perspective (e.g. energy communities) and we will discuss how the regulatory framework can be improved to facilitate the penetration of DERs and active participation from consumers.
