European agricultural land, comprising significant portions of grassland and cropland, has substantial potential for the integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems. With grassland making up about 50% of land use and the possibility of producing one terawatt of energy if managed correctly, this type of land is particularly well-suited for RKPV (Reinforced Knowledge and Photovoltaics). Approximately 60% of grasslands are used for forage production, serving as vital resources for livestock. Europe hosts around 72 million cattle and 55 million sheep, with cattle requiring more land than sheep. A project example illustrates the potential for sustainable energy solutions through PV systems on an organic dairy farm. Adjustments to PV installations have promoted both sustainability and farmer welfare, allowing farmers to diversify income while enhancing cow welfare through shaded grazing areas. Additionally, innovative cattle tracking systems under solar panels improve efficiency and minimize yield loss. The transition to new frameworks in solar projects aims to benefit all stakeholders, promoting environmental sustainability and community satisfaction.

Agrivoltaics Expert
Agricultural PV has been moving from pilot to scale, combining food and power production while addressing land scarcity and climate pressure. Yet large-scale deployment is still constrained as it depends on clear policy frameworks, viable business cases, and proven system concepts. Taking inspiration from global developments, this session explores Europe's market potential, diverse applications from livestock to greenhouses, and the economic drivers shaping profitable agriculturalPV projects. This session will address: Agricultural PV outlook and key business enablers for scale-up Real-world case studies Progressive policy frameworks in major agricultural PV markets System design options and corresponding business model approaches Economic, technical and agricultural requirements for utility-scale projects
