The Prospect project is an open-source platform designed to improve transparency in energy access and impact assessment for Sustainable Development Goal 7. Supported by the EU and several European nations, it collects data on energy transitions using automated systems like IoT devices or mobile money payments. The platform standardizes CRM data into visualizations and KPIs, allowing companies to share insights with stakeholders such as local governments or investors under specific agreements. Originating from Sub-Saharan Africa's solar industry experiences, where large analytics teams are rare due to resource constraints, Prospect offers digital monitoring solutions that save time compared to traditional verification methods involving independent agents. Privacy measures ensure pseudonymized customer information remains secure while supporting results-based finance programs efficiently; its implementation in Uganda notably reduced verification costs significantly while aiding household electrification efforts alongside partners like UECCC and the World Bank. In Uganda specifically, field agents use a mobile app called Prospect during sales transactions for inputting customer details including ID photos for subsidy eligibility checks (50-60% of kit prices). Mobile money payments act as proxies when IoT data isn't available ensuring transaction authenticity through cross-verification against CRM statements. Unlike Odyssey—a paid closed-source IT tool—Prospect remains flexible yet modifiable catering more openly towards public sector actors globally.
