Azimut 360, a Barcelona-based non-profit cooperative founded in 2009, specializes in photovoltaic installations and has been active globally with significant projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2022, Azimut has developed eight renewable energy initiatives near Maputo, Mozambique, focusing on solar PV systems for essential infrastructure like schools and hospitals. They emphasize the importance of digital tools for planning and monitoring remote mini-grids due to their isolated nature which complicates maintenance visits post-construction. Digitalization aids performance understanding while reducing operational costs by enabling preventive maintenance through remote control capabilities—factors crucial for enhancing return on investment (ROI). Despite its minimal cost impact (<1% of total project budget), effective monitoring can significantly influence long-term outcomes. Mozambique's electrification efforts aim for universal access by 2030 amidst challenges such as inadequate data tools hindering load consumption estimation and grid operation comprehension. A centralized platform supported by the European Union is being developed under the Digital Energy Challenge to integrate real-time data analysis across multiple platforms into one toolset—enhancing efficiency and planning accuracy while attracting private operators through improved operational insights.
