What is the status of the upcoming EU regulation that will affect electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and the companies doing business in this sector? What does this mean for the markets? The regulation will e.g. affect electric vehicles throughout the EU, the entire life cycle of batteries, including the extraction of materials and the disposal of batteries.

A lot of the EU regulation is part of the Fit-for-55 initiative. However, the regulation relevant for the e-mobiliy sector encompasses more. The webinar will cover the developments around EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation Proposal (AFIR). Also The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), Renewable Energy Directive (RED), Corporate Sustainability Reporting (CRS) and Corporate Sustanability Due Diligence (CSDDD) will be included. It also touches on the Ecodesign Directive, and the current political discussions around HDV CO2, requirements for corporate fleets, the Critical Raw Material Act and the Net Zero Industry Act

Thomas Neumann, Policy Manger of AVERE (The European Association for Electromobility) and lawyer Alexander Dlouhy, partner of the international law firm from Osborne Clarke and Head of Decarbonisation (Germany) will give you an overview of the current status, the political discussions and an outlook update a full update for the year 2023 in this webinar.

As Project Manager Power2Drive Europe he is responsible for Europe's largest exhibition for charging infrastructure and electromobility in the context of renewable energies. As an enabler for the new mobility and energy world, he connects the international industries as a part of The smarter E Europe, having previously worked as a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in the field of charging infrastructure, grid integration of renewable energies and smart grids at the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW).

As Policy Manager at AVERE – the European association for electromobility, Thomas Neumann leads the association’s work on all relevant EU policy developments. This includes coordinating AVERE's working groups, monitoring and analyzing key policy proposals for the association's membership, as well as engagement with policymakers to ensure favorable policy outcomes for the deployment of E-mobility throughout Europe.

Prior to working at AVERE, he worked as a public affairs consultant in Brussels, focussing primarily on energy and climate issues. He also completed a traineeship in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade.

Photovoltaic prices have fallen continuously in recent years - a trend that should translate into a growing market for off-grid solutions. Declining costs are crucial for rural electrification in particular, making sustainable energy supply economically viable in remote regions. However, so far many of these price advantages have not yet reached the people that need them most. Do existing framework conditions to foster rural electrification still work in this new market reality? Which measures are needed to ensure that cost reductions reach our target group? This session discusses strategies for improving the availability of low-cost off-grid solutions, financing and innovative business models. A look at successful practical examples shows which political, economic and technological levers need to be pulled to make off-grid PV accessible on a large scale.
