Evelyn Maier Discusses Sonnen GmbH's Commitment to Enhancing Energy Infrastructure with Advanced Battery Systems

Evelyn Maier, a product manager at sonnen GmbH in Germany, discusses the company's commitment to enhancing energy infrastructure through battery systems. Sonnen GmbH is recognized as one of the leading manufacturers providing energy solutions for homes and commercial applications. Established 15 years ago with a focus on consumer needs, they launched their first European product two years ago. The company offers FlexStack solutions aimed at ensuring robust energy systematicity by addressing common challenges such as limited battery capacity and connectivity issues that hinder effective integration into existing infrastructures. Evelyn highlights how virtual power plants can play a crucial role in overcoming these obstacles by offering scalable and efficient alternatives to traditional setups. These virtual systems are designed to be adaptable even when faced with low readiness levels or small-scale implementations, ultimately supporting more resilient energy frameworks across various contexts while maintaining high standards of performance and reliability.

Energy storage is usually not an end in itself. The technical and financial benefits are always the main concern. However, it is often difficult to prove the profitability of use cases. Acquisition or operating costs are often still too high in relation to returns. But the market is changing, and new framework conditions and regulations are creating opportunities for new use cases. The most attended session of the ees Europe Conference 2024 already gave attendees an overview. In 2025, we will take this format to the next level. In this session, you will learn more about the latest challenges and how to overcome them to create financially profitable use cases.

Photovoltaic prices have fallen continuously in recent years - a trend that should translate into a growing market for off-grid solutions. Declining costs are crucial for rural electrification in particular, making sustainable energy supply economically viable in remote regions. However, so far many of these price advantages have not yet reached the people that need them most. Do existing framework conditions to foster rural electrification still work in this new market reality? Which measures are needed to ensure that cost reductions reach our target group? This session discusses strategies for improving the availability of low-cost off-grid solutions, financing and innovative business models. A look at successful practical examples shows which political, economic and technological levers need to be pulled to make off-grid PV accessible on a large scale.
