The Mobility House Unveils First V2G Commercial Product with Renault, Paving the Way for Zero-Cost Electric Driving.

The presentation discusses the development and implementation of a Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) commercial product, launched in collaboration with Renault. The speaker highlights the potential of electric vehicles (EVs), emphasizing their current abundance on roads and untapped flexibility. The V2G system allows EV owners to earn money by plugging into bidirectional charging stations like Mobilize Verso wallbox, which are integrated with MyRenault app for user convenience. A case study from France illustrates how an EV owner drove 1,100 kilometers at minimal cost due to this service's financial incentives. Challenges include standardization issues across chargers and communication protocols such as ISO 15118-20 and OCPP; regulatory hurdles like double taxation in Germany; smart metering requirements; interface compatibility among various stakeholders including utilities; and OEM permissions for vehicle discharge capabilities. Despite these challenges, partnerships with automotive companies like Mercedes-Benz aim to expand services beyond France into markets such as Germany and the UK. Ultimately, through aggregation platforms modeling asset flexibility alongside trading strategies focused on day-ahead/intraday markets, they strive towards achieving zero-cost driving while benefiting energy systems globally.

For more than two decades, Norway has been steadily building a marketplace for electric transport. Having started out with inexpensive short-range electric cars and household charging sockets, Norway has now moved to mass-market solutions where fast charging (DC) and grid balancing (AC) plays an ever more vital role. With more than 1,000,000 electric cars and over 10,000 fast chargers in a relatively small market, Norway offers a rare early view of large-scale electrification. Over the past decade, electric cars have seen substantial improvements, which is now making it easier for new markets to advance electrification. At the same time, Norway has to deal with challenges years before other markets do. Yet despite different starting points, we can see that most markets are facing the same core challenges. From grid-smart charging strategies to innovative business models, there are excellent examples of best practices emerging elsewhere in Europe. What will the next thing in electrification be, both in mature and in emerging markets? And what will be possible when the right people and companies come together, sharing knowledge, solving common problems and accelerating the shift to cleaner mobility?
