Free Webinar

Thursday, February 24, 2026 | 11.00am–12.00pm CET | Webinar language: English

After years of record growth, the European solar market experienced a slight decline of 0.7 percent in 2025. 65.1 gigawatts were installed in the EU, with new installations characterized by an increasing shift toward the large-scale plant segment. One solar market performed with a particularly high growth rate: Romania grew by 2.5 gigawatts (GW) in 2025—an increase of 45 percent compared to 2024! The Balkan state stood out thanks to stable framework conditions and fast approval times for large-scale plants. In the webinar, you will learn everything about the most important developments in the EU solar market, and particularly the solar market in Romania.

During the webinar participants can submit their questions to get them answered by the experts in the live Q&A. In addition, both the recording and the speakers' presentations will be made available on our digital content platform The smarter E Digital after the webinar.

Photovoltaic prices have fallen continuously in recent years - a trend that should translate into a growing market for off-grid solutions. Declining costs are crucial for rural electrification in particular, making sustainable energy supply economically viable in remote regions. However, so far many of these price advantages have not yet reached the people that need them most. Do existing framework conditions to foster rural electrification still work in this new market reality? Which measures are needed to ensure that cost reductions reach our target group? This session discusses strategies for improving the availability of low-cost off-grid solutions, financing and innovative business models. A look at successful practical examples shows which political, economic and technological levers need to be pulled to make off-grid PV accessible on a large scale.
