Webinar

Tuesday, May 30, 2023 I 10:00am CST I 6:00pm CET I Language: Spanish

The panelists will present steps to be taken to accelerate the adoption of photovoltaic systems in medium and large companies in Mexico, considering the possible options in the current legal framework (isolated supply and distributed generation) and based on the requirements in the industry to reduce the carbon footprint.

Aidana Velázquez

Aidana has more than 10 years of experience in the energy sector, both nationally and internationally, with a focus on the analysis and design of energy policies and regulations, implemented by government agencies and international cooperation in Mexico and Latin America. She collaborated with the International Energy Agency in Mexico's accession process and in initiatives focused on the development of the energy sectors in Latin America, especially Chile and Brazil. Additionally, she contributed in the elaboration of the current regulation of the Mexican electricity sector.

Currently, she is dedicated to promoting and managing the development of photovoltaic projects and the integration of energy storage systems as Institutional Relations Manager at Enlight, a leading distributed generation company in Mexico, and is committed to leading energy storage developments in Chile.

Aidana holds a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a Master's degree in Energy and Environmental Management and Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology-KTH- in Stockholm, Sweden and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain.

Gilberto Sánchez

Gilberto is a regulatory advisor in the electricity sector in Mexico with extensive experience in distributed generation. In 2016 he participated in the working tables for the approval of the general administrative provisions for the interconnection of power plants smaller than 0.5MWp of the Special Energy Transition Program (PETE) of SENER. He has contributed in several workshops and discussion panels related to regulation such as those that analyzed the Electricity Industry Law in 2021 and in CALIDENA, the program to evaluate and improve the value chain in the photovoltaic sector led by the German National Metrology Institute (PTB), among others.

He has collaborated with different manufacturers to provide compliance with the technical requirements requested in RES/142/2017. He also has several certifications, including that of strategic and commercial partner in Mexico for the SOLAREDGE brand. His company has installed more than 6 GWp Installed in distributed generation.

He directs the online workshop portal “Hablando de Energía” (https://aula.hablandodeenergia.com) that promotes knowledge of the Electricity Industry Law and its regulation. He is part of the XXII Board of Directors (2022-2024) in the National Solar Energy Association, currently as head of the Secretariat for Photovoltaic Regulation.

Off-grid solar systems are often the least expensive option for rural electrification. Solar home systems can power individual households, while mini-grids can supply entire villages. Each comes with its own advantages, disadvantages, and challenges. The aim of this session is to explore challenges as well as success stories. It takes well-functioning components such as battery systems, charge management and inverters to make projects successful. Proper system sizing, maintenance and repair management, as well as a robust financial concept are also necessary. If one of these elements is missing, the electrification will not be sustainable. This session will focus on the aspects mentioned above. The speakers will present successful and unsuccessful approaches and discuss what can be learned from them.
