Schaltbau GmbH Unveils C330 High Performance MCS Contactor for Efficient Megawatt Charging Solutions

Pavel Tomashev from Schaltbau GmbH introduces the C330 High Performance MCS Contactor, a pivotal component for advancing megawatt charging infrastructure. The contactor addresses inefficiencies in existing DC fast and high-power charging systems by significantly reducing power losses through its ultra-low contact resistance of 35 micro-ohms—six times lower than market averages. This innovation is crucial as it minimizes energy loss costs and reduces cooling demands, thereby saving operational expenses. Designed to meet future requirements like those of MCS Level 3, the contactor can handle up to 2,000 amps under standard conditions or even reach 3,000 amps with special cooling setups. Its gas-free design eliminates explosion risks while maintaining stable performance over time due to dual-contact circuits that prevent degradation in resistance levels. Additionally, it's fully bidirectional (V2G ready), enhancing versatility for modern applications. By lowering power losses threefold compared to typical products on the market, this solution offers substantial economic benefits across multiple components within a charging station setup.

Photovoltaic prices have fallen continuously in recent years - a trend that should translate into a growing market for off-grid solutions. Declining costs are crucial for rural electrification in particular, making sustainable energy supply economically viable in remote regions. However, so far many of these price advantages have not yet reached the people that need them most. Do existing framework conditions to foster rural electrification still work in this new market reality? Which measures are needed to ensure that cost reductions reach our target group? This session discusses strategies for improving the availability of low-cost off-grid solutions, financing and innovative business models. A look at successful practical examples shows which political, economic and technological levers need to be pulled to make off-grid PV accessible on a large scale.
