Swiss Scale-Up Hive Power Revolutionizes Energy Flexibility with Smart EV Charging and Battery Aggregation Solutions

Gianluca Corbellini, CEO and co-founder of Hive Power, introduces the Swiss scale-up company based in Lugano. Hive Power focuses on flexibility optimization with a keen interest in smart EV charging and battery aggregation to maximize savings and generate new revenue streams for customers. Acting as an intermediary layer between stationary batteries, EV infrastructure, heat pumps, solar containment systems, and energy companies with market access allows them to monetize this flexibility via ancillary services. They address various sectors including OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), fleet managers, logistics firms, and energy companies themselves. Hive Power's initial use case is price arbitrage by leveraging intraday volatility in energy spot prices; shifting electric vehicle charging times when prices are lower can save around 150-200 euros per car annually due to high renewable penetration causing significant volatility across Europe. Another focus area is aggregating available flexibilities from vehicles or batteries for grid stabilization services without affecting user comfort levels—an innovative approach qualified by Swiss Grid allowing direct tertiary control from vehicles sans station connections. Their scalable model involves forecasting potential extractable flexibilities connected directly to vehicles/charging stations before signaling BSPs (Balancing Service Providers) who bid these capacities towards TSOs nationally while scheduling baseline patterns maximizing biddable amounts alongside disaggregated command signals sent back ensuring operational efficiency throughout processes involved ultimately enhancing local distribution system operations avoiding congestion issues effectively too!

For more than two decades, Norway has been steadily building a marketplace for electric transport. Having started out with inexpensive short-range electric cars and household charging sockets, Norway has now moved to mass-market solutions where fast charging (DC) and grid balancing (AC) plays an ever more vital role. With more than 1,000,000 electric cars and over 10,000 fast chargers in a relatively small market, Norway offers a rare early view of large-scale electrification. Over the past decade, electric cars have seen substantial improvements, which is now making it easier for new markets to advance electrification. At the same time, Norway has to deal with challenges years before other markets do. Yet despite different starting points, we can see that most markets are facing the same core challenges. From grid-smart charging strategies to innovative business models, there are excellent examples of best practices emerging elsewhere in Europe. What will the next thing in electrification be, both in mature and in emerging markets? And what will be possible when the right people and companies come together, sharing knowledge, solving common problems and accelerating the shift to cleaner mobility?
